Chennai Super Kings, led by their young skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 78 runs and swing back the momentum after two consecutive losses against Lucknow Super Giants and move to third spot in the table.

CSK post 212!
Apr 28, 2024 23:44 Who were sent to bat first after losing the toss posted a total of 212 runs for the loss of 3 wickets despite Ajinkya Rahane having gone for a mere score of 9 runs off 12 balls. Then came Daryll Mitchell who scored his maiden half-century of his IPL career and put up a 107 runs partnership alongside his skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad who narrowly missed out on his second century of this season after being caught out by Nitish Kumar Reddy.

IPL’s leading six hitter, Shivam Dube had a good outing as well scoring 39 not out in his 20 balls with 4 sixes alongside to boast of. After the fall of the skipper’s wicket in the 19.2 over, fan favourite MS Dhoni came on to bat and scored a boundary off his first ball and followed it with a single. Despite having scored 212, it still looked a little short considering the dew that was expected. But, there is a vast difference in predicitions and reality, isn’t it?

SRH collapse in the powerplay
SRH, who arguably have had the most formidable batting performance of the season so far – architect being their two openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started the run chase off with a boundary in the very first ball of the innings. Travis Head who looked on-song was caught by Mitchell at deep backward square leg in a short cameo of just 13 runs. Anmolpreet Singh, brought on as an imact sub couldn’t make a mark as he was gone for a golden duck putting Tushar Deshpande on-a-hattrick going into his next over. Abhishek Sharma followed the similar trend as he was also snt back by the c Mitchell b Deshpande pair. Believe it or not Sunrisers Hyderabad were 55-3 after 3 wickets from their pacer Tushar Deshpande.

CSK control the rest of the innings
SRH, who were put in pressure by the loss of wickets rather than the runs scored in the powerplay couldn’t manage to relieve the pressure as Nitish Kumar Reddy was sent back to the hut after a mis-hit top edge which was safely carried by MS Dhoni.
Heinrich Klaasen came on to bat making it a South African affair in the middle alongside his compatriot Aiden Markram, but it didn’t last long as both of their wickets belonged to Matheesha Pathirana as Markram was bowled by a beltar of a delivery knocking down the middle stump and Klaasen was also sent back after being caught out by Mitchell(Gosh he’s everywhere today!). Their joint-highest partnership of the evening, Abdul Samad-Klaasen of 32 runs crumbled as both of them lost their wickets within the span of 4 balls.
Captain Pat Cummins was still optimistic about the SRH win even taking 2 reviews but it was too late and he was caught as the c Mitchell b Deshpande pair came on to action for the third time this evening and made it his 10th wicket this season and produced his best figures of his IPL career, 4-27 off his 3 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed walked in the footsteps of his skipper as he was caught at deep point by, guess who? Daryll Mitchell of course making it his 5th catch today. P.S. My hands need a break from writing caught by Mitchell at this point.

The final nail in the coffin was put by CSK’s leading wicket-taker this season, Mustafizur Rahman after taking 2 wickets in the wicket of Jaydev Undakat in the same over as Ahmed.
